In a sea of Asian and Euro imports, a few screaming eagles have managed to break into the drift scene and establish themselves as American-made, driftable rides. Mustangs have long been a go-to pick for drivers looking to keep it domestic, but the Chevy Corvette has really started to equal or exceed their numbers at drift events of late.

Standing halfway up a mountain road in Jackson County, KY and hearing 12 different exhaust notes echoing through the hills as 10 drift cars, a lead car and a chase car start to gun it toward the uphill section of the US’ first legal touge on a public road gave me chills then and remembering it still does now.

Friday, August 18 Corbin, KY will welcome the Drift Indy community for our roll-in and cruise to downtown, Saturday we’ll see who ends up on the top step of the podium for the final DISL volume of the year and, finally, Sunday will see some of our best drivers take to a mountain road for the first-of-its-kind touge.

This is what Drift Indy facilitates; a place for anyone to get involved on any level. New and veteran drivers seeking seat time, comp dudes looking to shake down rigs, media people looking to create killer content and spectators who just want to enjoy the show. There are no attitudes in the pits and no shortage of drivers willing to give a fan an experience of a ride-along in the middle of a 6 car train. We don't have a bad time here and this is why I keep coming back.

I think part of what makes DISL such a great event for both spectators and drivers is that it's a distillation of what drifting has long been about. There's fewer distractions than in pro drifting or big money comps. The barrier to entry is lower, but still high enough to make sure everyone is held to a high standard of skill and style.
