Halloween Jam '24 Preview: Spooky Festivities and the Return of DISL Teams

Time to break out those plastic skeletons, folks. It’s Halloween Jam time! This Friday and Saturday we’ll be getting our spooky shred on at Kil-kare, complete with a costume party and the return of DISL Teams.

While Halloween Jam is sometimes overshadowed by No Star Bash, it’s still a killer party every season. With the weather cooling down and Halloween right around the corner, it’s a perfect chance for everybody to break out their costumes early. This season’s jam will be especially rad thanks to the addition of a little competitive spirit.

The first and only time DISL Teams was held was way back in 2022 at DISL Volume 7. That iteration saw a nice selection of teams throw down to see who could put together the best, most stylish team run in two judged runs. Bobby’s Crew won, Terror Kult got second and Team Smooth Brain snagged third.

This time around, the teams will be judged on their performance(s) during a half-hour jam session. It’ll be a little more informal than the usual comp formats. We just want to see everybody out there shredding with their boys and having fun. If that fun translates to a heater of a lap, then you just might earn yourself some bragging rights!

Strapping a plastic skeleton in (or on) your ride has become a staple of our Halloween events. Team Shade have traditionally been real trendsetters when it comes to these, but last season saw quite a few new folks taking part. The skeletons unfortunate enough to find themselves strapped to the exterior of a car tend to end up torn apart by either the wall or an overly-enthusiastic tandem buddy. It’s not uncommon to still be finding pieces of skeleton in the infield in June or July of the next season.

Another wholesome Halloween Jam tradition is trunk or treat. The structure varies, but the basics are that each pit should have a candy bucket and some candy available for all the kids in the pits. It’s a nice way to give back to all the kids that come out to cheer all our shredders on.

The weekend promises to be a chock-full of equal parts sick driving and spooky festivities. As the season winds down with our last bash-style event of the year, it’s a nice chance to chill and get in some laps with the homies. Halloween Jam 2024 gets underway Friday, Oct. 18 with driver gates opening at 2:00 PM.
