No Star Bash X DISL Round 3 Preview: Four Days of Drifting Action

The Drift Indy Street League x No Star Bash XIII four-day-long shred-fest is upon us. The event kicks off Thursday, Sept. 19 with gates opening to drivers at 1:00 PM and spectator gates opening at 4:00 PM.

For those who aren’t familiar with No Star Bash, perhaps those of you who reside under a stone or something similar, it’s the biggest event on our calendar each season. With over 150 drivers joining us each year to throw down over the course of a few days, it gets gnarly. With 15+ car drift trains ripping through Kil-kare, vendors, food trucks and nighttime parties, it’s always a weekend to remember. We’ve got a killer list of vendors and food trucks joining us this year:

Vendors

  • JEM Sport
  • Link ECU
  • Girls Gone Drifting
  • Vyral
  • Coilover Depot
  • Grip Royal
  • Obsess Worldwide
  • Sponsored Adrenaline
  • Gem Autofinish
  • Yankii Special
  • RedBull
  • Halyn Crate
  • Doctored | Michael Feldkamp
  • Samantha Gerde

Food Trucks

  • El Cardenal Taqueria
  • Beach Brothers BBQ
  • KNC Shaved Ice
  • Derrick's Grill
  • Chesters Foods LTD
  • Chesters Kettle Corn
  • HD Coneys & Floats

This year also marks the return of the Roller Dog Championship, NSB's signature hotdog-eating competition. That'll take place Saturday afternoon, and will feature some of the hungriest mouths in the Midwest as they scarf down as many glizzies as they can.

The competition isn't limited to RDC or DISL, though. This year we've added yard games around the party tent, including cornhole (if you call it bags that's weird), ladder golf, kan jam and yard pong. Keep an eye on each day's schedule for the addition of a mini pong tournament.

What sets this 13th edition of NSB apart from past years, though, is the addition of this season’s final round of DISL. After two rounds, the season is all set for a nail-biting finale. Cash Staub, Sam Cornewell and Justin Medina are sitting at the top of the rankings, with only one point separating Cash and Sam. Those two will be gunning for their third podium in a row, while Justin is hungry for his first hardware of the season.

Although those three are the only ones that are in with a shot of taking first overall, the wider field of drivers is chock-full of shredders that will be looking to keep them off the podium steps to earn their own medal. Roy Outcalt, Round 1’s winner and fourth overall in the rankings, will definitely be one to watch, especially back at his home track. Bobby’s Crew will doubtless be shredding together all weekend, and any one of them could make a deep run in the comp. Chad Anderson, currently sixth overall, makes an especially compelling argument. Josh Estey and Vance Kearns, both former DISL Volume winners, definitely have what it takes as well.

There will likely be a Team Smooth Brain and Bobby’s Crew matchup somewhere in the bracket, a battle (or battles) that promises to be exciting. You can’t talk about formidable teams without including Team Shade, too. To say they know their way around Kil-kare is an understatement, and I would be far from shocked to see one of their orange whips in the finals.

Coming off an impressive performance up at USAir, Rodney Blankenship may be hitting his stride in competition. Cody Edmiston, Cam Stone and Teague Walters, with their unaffiliated trio of white Miatas, have all thrown down in killer battles at past DISL rounds, too. Rounding out our “ones to watch” list, Kyle Antonovich and Colten Terrell are both perennial heavy hitters that could easily make a deep run.

If we’re being really honest, though, the list of drivers joining us for Round 3 is so full of shredders that there are very few who would be a total shock to see on the podium. It’s going to be a nail-biter.

DISL practice will kick off Saturday evening, with prelims and the main competition being held on Sunday. The best in the midwest will go head to head in a perfect conclusion to a kick-ass weekend jam-packed with drifting.
