2024 Season Recap: Driving and Style Continue to Level Up, Even After 19 Years

The Drift Indy team and community closed out the 2024 season with a killer party in Indianapolis, wrapping up our 19th season organizing events. Drift Indy drivers, media, friends and family joined us at the Saint Shack and the Patron Saint for an award ceremony and party in the city where it all started.

Driver Spotlight: Justin "The Cheetah" Medina

Justin “The Cheetah” Medina has made quite a name for himself in drifting in a relatively short span of time. From his start on a rainy day at Kil-kare in 2020 behind the wheel of his E46 sedan to the DISL podium in his Honda S2000 in 2022 and third overall in the 2024 DISL rankings, Justin has packed a ton of shredding into just a few seasons.

Team Smooth Brain Spotlight: Have Red Car, Will Shred

Team Smooth Brain and their small fleet of red cars have managed to keep drifting simple and fun. They’re able to build off of, and learn from, each other and the other shredders they drive with. They’re no slouches when it comes to competition, as evidenced by their individual and team success in DISL, but don’t stress over it.

Driver Spotlight: Cash Staub

Four seasons ago, a 15-year-old and his dad showed up at one of our clinics with a cool, V8-swapped BMW E28. We weren’t even sure if he was going to be allowed to drive, but they got it figured out and he set off to learn the basics. Today, that same kid is first in this season’s Drift Indy Street League rankings and has been proving his mettle with pro drivers on the Drift Appalachia touges. 

Cash Staub, now 18 and a high school graduate, lives and breathes drifting.

DISL Round 2 Recap: Staub and Cornewell Earn Second Straight Podium

If anyone doubted that we’ve entered a new era for Drift Indy Street League talent, back-to-back podiums from Cash Staub and Sam Cornewell ought to be enough evidence that we truly have. Cash took the gold, Sam the silver and DISL newcomer Steven Fishel snagged the bronze at the end of two days of shredding from some of the best in the midwest.

DISL Round 2 Preview: DISL Heads to USAir

We’re headed to USAir Raceway in Shawano, WI for Drift Indy Street League Round 2 this week. 

The event marks the second time DISL has hit the road, with last season’s Volume 10 down in Corbin, KY being the first. We’ve worked with the crew at USAir to compose a kick-ass, never-before-seen competition course. Like all the layouts we’ve run, it’s designed to be both technical and exciting to watch.

DISL Round 3 Rescheduled, Moved to Kil-Kare

DISL Round 3 Rescheduled, Moved to Kil-Kare

Due to logistical issues, Drift Indy Street League Round 3 has been rescheduled and will now take place at our home track, Kil-kare Raceway, the same weekend as No Star Bash, Sept. 19-22. This change extends No Star Bash from three days to four, Thursday to Sunday. The DISL round will take place Saturday evening to Sunday, Sept. 21-22.

Driver Spotlight: Coy Pendleton

In a sea of S-chassis, 350Zs and BMWs, it can be tricky for a car to really stand out at drift events. You can stand out with your driving, or by whipping a less-common chassis, or by styling said chassis really damn well. Some folks manage to do all three, including 2023’s Drift Indy Most Stylish award winner Coy Pendleton and his Toyota Cressida MX83.

DISL Round 1 Recap

There’s no shortage of analogies to describe what went down at Drift Indy Street League Round 1 this weekend. We shook the etch-a-sketch. We poked the reset button with a mechanical pencil. We deleted our My Player. We prestiged.

Whatever. The point is, it’s a new era for DISL, and the new look is rad as hell.
